Dr. Cravens is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Tennessee. Currently, as professor at Freed-Hardeman University, he teaches courses in Counseling, Human Sexualty, and Marriage and Family in the Department of Behavioral Sciences. He is also the Director of the Master of Science Counseling Program. Dr. Cravens has a private practice in Jackson, Tennessee that offers counseling, consulting, and seminar services. He recently completed a ten year appointment by former Tennessee Governor Don Sundquist to the Licensing Board that oversees the operation and practice of Licensed Professional Counselors and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists. After completing his tenure on the Board, Governor Bredesen appointed him as a Consultant to the Board. This responsibility includes reviewing possible ethical and legal violations, as they are reported to the Attorney General's Office and determining whether or not such cases need to be forwarded to the actual Licensing Board.
Dr. Cravens and his wife, Sandy, have one son, James, and twin daughters, Natalie and Nicole. The Cravens family attends the Estes church of Christ in Henderson, Tennessee where Mike is a deacon.
