Information
David L. Lipe was born at Charleston, Mississippi, on February 11, 1949.
He taught Bible and Humanities at FHU from 1990 to 2010. He continues as the Director of the Annual Bible Lectureship at Freed-Hardeman, a position he has held since 1994. Dr. Lipe is also the director of the Southeast Institute of Biblical Studies (formerly East Tennessee School of Preaching & Missions) in Knoxville, TN.
In February, 2003 he was selected for the rank of Distinguished Professor by the FHU Board of Trustees.
He is married to the former Linda Wilson of Detroit, Michigan and they have three daughters: Carrie, Rachel, and Nikki. David and Linda have five grandchildren-- Kyle Gooch, Jessica Gooch, Olivia Simpson, Kate Simpson, and Ellie Simpson.
David has been preaching since 1967. He has done local work in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama. He has been involved in various mission campaigns in at least five foreign countries. He holds a number of gospel meetings each year as well as gives lectures on other occasions. He has participated in public debates discussing such topics as baptism, instrumental music, the Godhead, miraculous gifts, and Holy Spirit baptism. He conducts seminars on Christian evidences, Christian ethics, and church growth. He is very committed to evangelism. He has always had an interest in classic cars and has built many custom cars and street rods.
