Welcome to the faculty webpage of Brian D. Carver. I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology, Freed-Hardeman University, Henderson, Tennessee. My interests are broad and include mammalian and avian community ecology. Most of my recent work has focused on the ecology of cavity-roosting bats but I have also worked extensively with mid-sized mammalian predators (Virginia opossums, raccoons, striped skunks) and neotropical migratory songbirds. I teach a variety of courses and direct undergraduate student research through the Research Center here at FHU. I currently sit on the board of directors of both the Tennessee Bat Working Group and the Southeastern Bat Diversity Network.
When I'm not in the office (which seems to be a rare occurrence), I like to do nearly anything nature-related. I enjoy nature/wildlife photography, hiking, canoeing, hunting, and taking in my small farm from my tractor seat. I originally hail from middle Tennessee, while my wife, Pam, is from Cincinnati, Ohio. We have one daughter, Robyn, who was born in 2007.
Please visit my Research page for more information about my work. Also stop by my Photo Gallery for a variety of images, many related to my research.
