Becky Rogers was born on Christmas Eve, 1948, in New Albany, Mississippi, where
she spent her entire childhood. She received an A.A. degree from Freed-Hardeman
College in 1968, a B.A. degree from David Lipscomb College in 1970, and an M.Ed. degree from the University of Mississippi in 1971.
In 1971, Becky Rogers married Ken Cargile, and she taught at
Clinton High School, Clinton, Mississippi, and Chattahoochee Valley Community
College, Phenix City, Alabama, while her husband finished a medical degree and a
family practice residency. While living in Columbus, Georgia, the couple adopted
two daughters--Ginger Leigh and Angela Paige--before moving back to New Albany,
Mississippi, to set up a medical practice.
After practicing for 15 years in New Albany, the couple moved
in 1992 to Jackson, Tennessee, where Dr. Cargile began his work as a family
physician with The Jackson Clinic of Henderson and Mrs. Cargile taught as an
adjunct instructor in English at Jackson State Community College for one year.
In the fall of 1993, Becky Cargile became an adjunct lecturer
in the Department of Communication/Literature at Freed-Hardeman University. She
taught on a part-time basis until the spring of 1996, when she became a
full-time instructor in that department. In the fall of 1997, she began doctoral
work at the University of Memphis, and she received her Ed.D. in May 2000.
Dr. Cargile is now an associate professor. She typically
teaches two sections of English Composition 102, one section of English
Literature I, and one section of
an upper-division English course (Advanced Traditional Grammar, The Structure of
Modern English, or Advanced Composition). In addition, she is the advisor for
all the English majors in the Department of Communication/Literature.
Dr. Ken Cargile has just begun a new career as
doctor/assistant professor at Freed-Hardeman University. He sees patients in the
new clinic (across from Farrow) in the mornings and teaches Anatomy and
Physiology I and II, MCAT Preparation, and Pathophysiology.
After being active members of the North Jackson church of Christ
for a number of years, where Dr. Ken Cargile served as an elder, song leader, and
part-time teacher, the Cargiles have recently moved to Finger and placed
membership at Estes church of Christ.
They have joined a visitation team and hope to be used in a number of ways in
church and mission work.
Both of the Cargile daughters are grown. Ginger Parks lives in Nashville, where
she is a sales rep for Emser Tile. Angie and her
husband, David Moore, live in Jackson. David is a sales manager for Southeastern
Reinforcing in Jackson, and Angie is an interventional teacher for grades 2-4 at
Alamo. On March 13, 2002, Angie gave birth to David Carson Moore. On
November 16, 2004, she gave birth to their second
son (James Barrett). Carson is in kindergarten, and Barrett is in
preschool--both at Alamo. They are,
without a doubt, the best grandsons anyone could ever have. If you need
convincing, come by Dr. Cargile's office, and she will show you their pictures.
If you don't have time for that, go to www.dhmoore.com, and you can see them for
yourselves.
The Cargiles have traveled extensively (one of her hobbies).
They have been to numerous places in the contiguous 48 states and to Hawaii,
Alaska, Bermuda, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and Thailand. Dr. Becky Cargile has also been to Canada,
Mexico, Austria, France, Italy, the Czech Republic, Bratislava,
and the Cayman Islands. She plans to go to London and Stratford, England, in
March 2008.
