College Honors Societies

College Honor Societies recognize academic excellence and promote scholarship. In a nutshell, membership in an honor society bestows honor, recognition, and a lifetime distinction.

Don't let the Greek key fool you. College honor societies are neither social clubs, political organizations, nor the path to instant success. Honor society members are people - like you - with similar interests. They are eager to advance scholarship, ethics, and professionalism in their own academic disciplines. Consider the following benefits of membership.

Honor societies provide members more insight into disciplines than can be gained through classroom experience alone. Honor societies help members decide direction for future study and development by sponsoring activities that explore various fields. And they promote fellowship with students, faculty, and active professionals.

No matter which road you take after graduating, your chosen field will continue to change. Honor society members stay informed about current developments in their fields through the meetings and publications of these societies. Whether or not you choose to remain in the field related to your college major, your honor society affiliation broadens your horizons and education.

Whether you intend to go to graduate school or use your knowledge in industry or the professions, your college honor society key helps open doors. People in your field recognize the key as a mark of excellence which identifies you as exceptional.

Though achievement is its own reward, earning your honor society key demonstrates that you have accomplished something that makes you special and puts you at the top of your chosen field. You are the real key to your own success. Honor societies merely provide a tangible sign and help you recognize others who also have achieved academic success.

Honor society membership, like most worthwhile things in life, does not come easily. Some honor societies identify prospective members early in undergraduate careers, while others elect only upperclassmen or graduate students. Exceptional academic achievement is usually a prerequisite of all honor societies. Certain honor societies select from all academic fields, while others focus on attainment in specialized areas such as English or engineering. Still others recognize campus leadership and service.

Accept the challenge of membership in an ACHS organization. Reach for excellence. The honor key - is you.
